Presentation / Objectives

This guide explains how to install, update or uninstall the M-CONNECT software on a Windows computer.

Please note that any other software of the Mapping Suite must be updated accordingly to prevent any incompatibility errors.

Required specifications

Requirements

M-CONNECT 8.0 is compatible with the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7, Windows 7 Pro, Windows 10
  • Windows Server 2003, 2008 R2, 2012

To ensure the proper functioning of Mapping Suite, the host system must have at least the recommended hardware configuration and the latest updates provided by the publisher of the operating system.

Approximately 200 MB of available disk space is required to install the software.

M-CONNECT is compiled in 32-bit but is fully compatible with 64-bit operating systems.

System

Administrator permissions are required in order to install the software.

Read and Write permissions on the installation directory of the software are required for all users who are going to use the software using this computer.

Read and Write permissions for the working directory of the Mapping Server are required.

Connection with the Mapping server is performed by FTP or SFTP transfer, UNC path or network drive.

Depending on the configuration of the client architecture, the source files of M-CONNECT projects can be stored on a file server, shared by all users of the application. Read and Write permissions on this shared directory are required.

Installation Procedure

The software installation programs are available for download from the technical Mapping server at: https://server.mappingsuite.com.

They are called « M-Connect_setup_autogenbuild_vy.y.xxxxx.exe ».

  • Launch the installation executable file.

Please Note : On Windows 7 and higher, the installation program will request additional permissions that must be authorised.

  • After extracting of the installation files, click « Next » to start the installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Choose the installation directory.

Important: Although it will work on Windows 7 and higher, it is strongly advisable to not install the software in the directory suggested by default (C:\Program Files (x86)\M-Connect) because of the very high security restrictions applied by Microsoft. We recommend installing in a Mapping directory created as follows: "C:\MAPPING\M-Connect".

  • Leave the installation running until the end.
  • Then click « Finish » to complete the installation.

The installation program creates a shortcut in the « Start » menu of the computer: All Programs > MappingSuite > M-Connect.

Two tools associated with the application are installed as well: MapOffice and MapTranslate, in Unicode version.

Entries are also added to the Windows registry of the PC.

Windows Registry

A number of values are saved in the Windows registry during the installation and the use of M-CONNECT.

Tree structure

A base value (the installation path) is written from the installation of the software in : « HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mapping\M-Connect\Settings ».

Note : On 64-bit systems, the path in the registry is: « HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mapping\M-Connect\Settings »

The other values are then linked to the user logged on the PC and running the application in context. They are then written : « HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mapping\M-Connect ».

Four sub-directories are created :

  • Recent File List : list of the recently opened projects.
  • Server : list of M-Processing Servers configured in the M-Connect Preferences.
  • Settings : configuration and use parameters of the application.
  • Workspace : display parameters of the different views of the interface.

Configuration Parameters

List of the configuration and use parameters of the application, stored in the Windows registry (Settings) :

Update Procedure

Make sure M-CONNECT is not running on the PC you want to update.

  • Double-click on the new Setup
  • Authorize the additional permissions if needed
  • Select the « Repair » option

The program will update the application binary files in the installation directory.

Uninstall Procedure

Make sure M-CONNECT is not running on the PC you want to uninstall.

To uninstall the M-CONNECT software from the computer, simply launch the Setup and select the « Remove » option.

Once the program has finished, it deletes the installation directory (except if files have been modified manually) and deletes the shortcuts from the « Start » menu.

However, it does not delete the entries in the registry database. This is so that all the settings can be retrieved should the software be reinstalled. If necessary, the two entries in “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” and “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” can be removed manually.

The values are stored in these locations in the Windows registry database:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Mapping\M-Connect.
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mapping\M-Connect (if the software was installed on a 32-bit operating system).
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mapping\M-Connect (if the software was installed on a 64-bit operating system).
