M-Designer 8.0 Installation Guide

De MappingDoc

Presentation/Objectives

This guide explains how to install, update or uninstall the M-DESIGNER 8.0 software application on/from a Windows computer. As a rule of thumb, it is recommended that the other software modules of the Mapping suite be updated accordingly to prevent any version conflicts.

Requirements

System

M-DESIGNER 8.0 is compatible with the following operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2008, 2012
  • Windows 7, 8, 10

To ensure the proper functioning of Mapping Suite, the host system must have at least the recommended hardware configuration and the latest updates provided by the publisher of the operating system. Approximately 50 MB of free disk space is required to install the software. M-DESIGNER 8.0 is compiled in a 32-bit version but is fully compatible with 64-bit operating systems.

Note: If M-DESIGNER is used on multiple computers, the font size display settings must be the same on all computers. And on Windows 10, make sure the zoom level is set to 100% in the display settings.

Security

Administrator permissions are required to install the software. Read and Write permissions on the folder where the software is installed are required for all the users who are going to use the software on this computer. Read and Write permissions on the working directory of the Mapping server are required. The connection with the Mapping server is established by FTP transfer, UNC path or network drive. Specifications for connecting the M-DESIGNER PC to the server on which M-Processing Server (M-PS) is installed:

  • Know the server's IP address or network path
  • Have write access to the M-PS working directories
  • Have Administrator permissions for installation

If you are updating the software, it is recommended that you back up the environment first.

Installation Steps

The software installation programs are available for download on Mapping’s technical server at http://server.mappingsuite.com. The packages for M-DESIGNER are called M-DESIGNER_setup_autogenbuild_vy.y.xxxxx.exe.

  • Launch the Installshield Wizard.

Note: On Windows 7 and higher, the installation program will request additional permissions that must be authorised.

  • After extracting the installation files, click Next to start the installation.
  • A window is displayed notifying the user that only XPS projects can be opened in M-DESIGNER 8.0.

Click Yes to continue.

  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Choose the installation directory.

Important: Although it will work on Windows 7 and higher, it is strongly recommended to not install the software in the default directory suggested (C:\Program Files (x86)\M-DESIGNER) because of the very high security restrictions implemented by Microsoft. We recommend installing the software in a Mapping directory such as: C:\MAPPING\M-DESIGNER.

  • Leave the installation running until the end and then click Finish.

Update Procedure

Make sure M-DESIGNER is not running on the computer.

  • Launch the new Setup obtained or downloaded, authorize the additional permissions if needed, and then select the Repair option:

The program then updates the files in the installation directory.

Uninstall Procedure

To uninstall M-DESIGNER from the computer, simply launch the Setup program and select the Remove option as shown:

Once the program has finished, the installation directory is removed (except if files have been modified manually) and the shortcut in the computer's Start menu is deleted. However, some entries in the Windows registry will not be deleted. This is so that all the settings can be retrieved should the software be reinstalled. If necessary, you can delete the entries below manually:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Mapping\M-Designer
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mapping\M-Designer (on a 32-bit operating system)
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mapping\M-Designer (on a 64-bit operating system)
