Document templates can be designed from spooled files or XML files in Designer.

To design Mapping templates from a spooled file, export a spooled file, the template will be based off of it.

The spooled file is exported from the IBM i server to the computer in a *.PAG file which respects the lines and columns of the original spooled file.

It can be seen in Designer to help you design the overlay: text can be selected in the spooled file, dragged and dropped on the overlay to create a fixed text zone.

Most importantly, the spooled file helps you create the template of your Mapping. To retrieve variable data from your spooled file, select the spooled file zone to copy on the page. Designer then retrieves the position (lines and columns) of the selected zone.

This prevents you from having to enter the position of the zone each time, to create it.

To display a spooled file:

  • Click on the right part of the window to activate it
  • Click on the Change data stream icon of the Standard toolbar
  • Select the example spooled file to display

  • Type in the interval at which you want the document to be saved (in minutes)

Note: Split the Designer window in half by clicking on the Data View box of the Standard toolbar.
